Potential exists
everywhere.
Opportunity does not.
Urooj walks with young people aged 14–30 across Bihar — through fellowships, youth resource centres, digital skills and open dialogue — so that potential finally has somewhere to go.
Our values: equity and inclusion, opportunity and access, safe and inclusive spaces, social impact, youth-centered practice.
A platform where youth potential becomes a force for social change.
Bihar is one of the youngest states in India — full of energy, full of potential. We believe its future depends on whether its young people, especially those pushed to the margins, are given the chance to grow, dream and contribute.
We have been active since 2022. Many young people face barriers of poverty, discrimination and limited access to education and skills. By meeting them with opportunity, guidance and training, we help them grow — and shape a better society as they do.
Our vision, mission and valuesNumbers that began as names.
We began by listening.
Urooj began in 2022, when the pandemic had left many young people uncertain about their futures — and youth from marginalized backgrounds were carrying the heaviest burden.
What young people told us
They lacked guidance, safe spaces to learn, and access to skills that could open doors to work and independence. So we started there.
A fellowship, and a computer centre
We created the Urooj Fellowship Program for Muslim youth — mentorship, skill-building and encouragement. The same year, we opened a computer centre for girls in Patna. For many of them, it was the first computer they had ever used.
Growing up, and answering for it
As our work grew, so did our responsibility. In 2024, Urooj was formally registered as a Section 8 company — so we could stay accountable and reach further.
Why we keep going
Because when young people are supported with care and opportunity, their potential stops being private. It becomes a force everyone around them can feel.
Four ways we make opportunity reachable.
Each program answers a different barrier — exposure, access, skills, or voice. Together they form one journey.

During my fellowship at the Urooj Fellowship Program, I had the privilege to collaborate with industry experts and work on a project with a professor from Warwick University. These experiences, along with working with inspiring individuals, have taught me invaluable lessons and fueled my passion for creating positive change.
Urooj's computer training program has truly opened up a new world for me. I had always felt limited by the lack of computer access at my government school, but Urooj's classes have given me the skills and confidence to explore new opportunities. I'm so grateful for the chance to learn something I never thought was possible.

Opportunity is something people give each other.
Fund a learner, mentor a fellow, host a placement, or partner on a dialogue. Every one of these is a door someone walks through.
